POLICY LIMITS
The Europe 31 Day annual policy covers all countries to the West of the Ural Mountains including the British Isles, Ireland, Iceland, islands in the Mediterranean, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Azores, for 31 continuous days for any one rental agreement. The Europe 62 annual policy covers Europe (as defined above) for 62 continuous days for any one rental agreement. The Europe 75-85 annual policy covers Europe (as defined above), for 31 continuous days for any one rental agreement. The Excess Worldwide 31 annual policy is valid worldwide for 31 continuous days for any one rental agreement. The Excess Worldwide 62 annual policy is valid worldwide for 62 continuous days for any one car rental agreement. The Excess Worldwide 75-85 annual policy is valid worldwide for 31 continuous days for any one rental agreement. All the 75 – 85 policy’s cover all the countries and terms of the annual worldwide and European policies, but with the exception the only to be purchased by people aged 75 – 85 years. The UK only policy is valid for any car rental throughout the UK, with no limit imposed from the home address.Please note, all policies, apart from the UK only policies have a restriction, whereby the rental must be over 150 kilometres from the renters home address.
No cover is provided under this policy for any trip in, to, or through Afghanistan, Belarus, Cuba, Congo, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Liberia, North Korea, Myanmar, Sudan and Zimbabwe.
CONDITIONS APPLICABLE:
- Written notice of accidents, proceedings or any other events that may give rise to a claim shall be given to the Claims Office in writing within 31 days. All Certificates, information and evidence required by the Claims Office shall be furnished at the expense of the Insured Person or their legal representatives.
- If the rental company insurer is not willing to pay out on any claim for any reason, we are not liable to reimburse any money to the policy holder or additional drivers.
- All claims hereunder shall be governed by the laws of England & Wales whose courts alone shall have jurisdiction in any dispute arising under this insurance.
- All Persons must hold a valid driving licence, or hold a full internationally recognised licence.
EXCLUSIONS
- Persons who have not paid in full the appropriate or additional premium.
- Where a rental vehicle is hired within the usual country of domicile within 150 kilometres of the Insured’s usual place of residence. Unless the insured has the UK 31 day policy or UK Unlimited policy.
- Wilfully self-inflicted injury or illness, alcoholism or the use of alcohol or drugs (other than drugs taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a registered medical practitioner, but not for the treatment of drug addiction) self exposure or needless peril (except in an attempt to save human life).
- Loss or destruction of or damage to any property whatsoever, or any liability, loss or exposure whatsoever resulting or arising there from or any consequential loss directly or indirectly caused by or contributed to by or arising from (a) ionising radiation or contamination by radioactivity from any nuclear fuel or any waste and the combustion of nuclear fuel or (b) the radioactive toxic explosive or other hazardous properties or any explosive nuclear assembly or nuclear component thereof.
- Loss or damage directly or indirectly occasioned by happening through or in consequence of war, invasion, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, terrorism, military or usurped power or confiscation or nationalisation or requisition or destruction of or damage to property by or under the order of any government or public or local authority;
- Losses in respect of any property or expenses more specifically insured or any claim which but for the existence of this insurance should be recoverable under any other insurance.
- Claims or incidents that may give rise to a claim not notified direct in writing to the Claims Office within 31 days of the expiry of the Insurance.
- Any fraudulent, dishonest or criminal act committed by the Insured Person(s) or with whom he / she is in collusion, or insurance effected in circumstances where a claim might reasonably be anticipated.
- Loss arising from operation of the vehicle in violation of the terms of the Rental Agreement.
- Expenses assumed, waived or paid by the Rental Agency or its Insurers.
- Automobiles or other vehicles, which are not Rental Vehicles.
- Wear and tear, gradual deterioration, insect or vermin, inherent vice or damage.
- Transporting contraband or illegal trade.
- Driving by persons who are not named on the Rental Agreement;
- The rental of “Expensive or Exotic” vehicles not considered to be a conventional and usual rental vehicle, and “Antique” vehicles, which are over 20 years old or which have not been manufactured for 10 years or more. Any vehicle with a Retail Purchase Price in excess of US$ 100,000 will not be insured.
- The rental of certain vehicles, namely: motor homes, camper vans, trailers or caravans, trucks, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, mopeds, motorbikes, off-road vehicles, recreational vehicles and passenger vans and vehicles with more than 9 seats.
- Expenses reimbursed by the Insured Person’s Employers’ Insurer.
- No coverage provided for those under 21 years and over 74 years of age (except for those purchasing a Europe 75-85 or an Worldwide 75-85 Policy, who must be aged between 75 and 85).
- No car rental agreement longer than 31 continuous days (or 62 days in the case of those who have purchased the Worldwide 62 Day policy).
- Losses occurring from driving whilst not on a Public Highway.
- Replacement of locks when only the parts need to be changed.
COOLING-OFF PERIOD
Your policy contains a “cooling-off” period of 14 days. If you find this policy does not meet with your needs, email, telephone or write to, email address: customerservice@excessprotection.co.uk , telephone number: 0845 5191 502 within 14 days. Your policy must be cancelled prior to the commencement date and your premium will be refunded as long as you have not rented a vehicle and do not intend to make a claim.
CANCELLATION
We may cancel your policy at any time by giving you 7 days’ written notice to the last known email address (or mailing address if you do not have an email address) provided by you. We will give you a proportionate refund of any premiums paid for the insurance cover remaining, providing you have not made any claim during the period of insurance cover.
CLAIMS
Should you wish to claim under your Car Rental Insurance you should call the Claims Helpline as soon as possible. You must give us any information or help that we ask for. You must not settle, reject, negotiate or agree to pay any claim without our written permission. Full details of how to claim are set out below.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE A CLAIM
- Copy of your Excess protection Policy from carhireinsurance4u.com.
- Copy of Rental Contract.
- A copy of your Charge Receipt (if separate from the Rental Agreement).
- If the incident by law requires the attendance of the Police, we require a copy of the Police Report.
- Renter’s copy of the Vehicle Rental Company accident damage report.
- Invoices / Receipts / other documents confirming the amount you have paid in respect of Accident / Damage / Loss etc. for which the Vehicle Rental Company holds you responsible.
- Copy of your credit card statement showing payment of the damages claimed.
- Copy of the driving licence of the person driving the rented vehicle involved in the accident (the driver).
- Name and address of your bank together with the sort code and account details. This will facilitate reimbursement as the insurance company prefers to make the payment directly to your bank.

COMPLAINTS
Our objective is to provide a high standard of service to you at all times. However we recognise that things can go wrong occasionally and if this occurs we are committed to resolving matters promptly and fairly. If you wish to register a complaint please contact us:
- By email or mail, to the Chief Executive Officer at the address shown in the Complaints Section of the Policy Document above;
- By telephone, using the number shown in the Complaints Section of the Policy Document above.
In all cases please quote your policy number. If you cannot settle your complaint with us you may be entitled to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
YOUR LEGAL DUTY TO DISCLOSE INFORMATION TO US
It is your responsibility to provide complete and accurate information to us when you take out your excess policy, throughout the life of the policy and when you renew it. It is important you ensure that all statements you make or confirm during the course of requesting a quote and/or purchasing an excess policy through our website, together with statements made in any claims forms, and other documentation are full and accurate. Please note that if you fail to disclose any material information or change of circumstances, this could invalidate your insurance cover and could mean that part or all of a claim may not be paid. We strongly recommend that the information provided is checked thoroughly prior to submission and that you keep a record of all correspondence supplied in relation to the arrangement of your excess cover. Please also note that any renewal policy will be made in reliance upon the information provided by you in connection with your previous insurance policy – we will assume that such information remains correct unless you tell us otherwise.
HOW TO MAKE A CLAIM
If you wish to report a claim or potential claim, please contact our claims line. Please quote your policy number. Your Policy Document (above) provides details as to how to make a claim and whom to contact.
TERMS OF PAYMENT
Our payment terms are as follows:
- new policies – full payment of premium including fees at time of purchasing the policy on our website.
- renewals – full payment of premium including fees at time of renewing policy.
We accept payment by debit or credit card.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION RELATING TO RENEWAL OF POLICIES
Prior to the expiry of your policy where we will be inviting a renewal we will endeavour to send you details of the cost and terms to renew your policy.
CONFIDENTIALITY AND DATA PROTECTION
All information about you of a sensitive or personal nature will be treated as private and confidential.
In the interests of security and to improve our service, telephone calls you make to us may be monitored and/or recorded.
NO WAIVER AND AMENDMENTS
A failure at any time by us to enforce any right or obligation shall not be deemed to be a continuing waiver of such right or obligation. No amendment or variation of these Terms requested by you shall be valid unless confirmed in writing by our duly authorised officer or employee. We reserve the right to amend these Terms at any time during our appointment (including for the avoidance of doubt during the term of your insurance) by giving you not less than 7 days’ notice.
PRIOR AGREEMENTS AND ACCEPTANCE
These Terms supersede all proposals, prior discussions and representations (whether oral or written) between us relating to our appointment as your agent in connection with the arranging and administration of your policy. These Terms constitute an offer by us to act on your behalf in the arranging and administration of your policy – in the absence of any specific acceptance communicated to us by you (whether verbal or written) you are deemed to accept our offer to act for you on the basis of these Terms by conduct upon your instructing us to arrange, renew or otherwise act for you in connection with insurance matters.
